Here are three short albums from a post-rock band called VerticalsQuote:Verticals is one of the most interesting young bands of the Russian club stage playing modern music in full sense of this word. In their creativity interwine lyrical emotional melodies, explosive drive and experimental noisy sketches. Musicians are very creative - they try to combine different styles and trends: from heavy guitar reeves up to psyshedelic landscapes, from prompt rhythms up to melancholic melodies.

«We always tried to play the Music», - guys speak. « Beautiful melodies, alive drive and experiment with a sound were always important for us. Basically we spend time on rehearsals where we play as loudly as possible - in fact only so it is possible to understand where music 'swings', and where there are no We never hesitated to play that would be desirable - did not adhere ourselves to any certain stylistics as many musicians do».

Indeed, on alive performances musicians give out a powerful stream of energy, and create a unique atmosphere which so is pleasant to their admirers.Gathered together in March, 2005 of the splinters of different bands, guys have started to work above a new material which would suit them on all of hundred percent. It's more mellow, and not summery at all but an incredible album nonetheless. Been playing the shit out of this for a while.the album as a whole will take some time to grow on me.

Definitely not my favorite type of music. But i gotta say, 'oh, la' really stood out to me as a track. I really enjoy the violin (cello, at times?) work on this album, thoughedit: the music/melody sort of reminds me of penguin cafe orchestra. Though I loved the brilliance of DEAD CITIES, RED SEAS & LOST GHOSTS, I think M83's follow up BEFORE THE DAWN HEALS US is equally exciting, if not equally brilliant. The shoegazing/stadium rock bombast is still present, as evidenced by the epic and dreamy opener 'Moon Child' and the drum frenzy of 'Don't Save Us From the Flames.'

'In the Cold I'm Standing' has a stately majesty to it, 'I Guess I'm Floating' convincingly evokes a quiet childhood. On the level of dynamics alone, this album works. Sure, this album also has its share of slower ballad-type songs, and some, like 'Safe' and 'Let Me Burn Stars' edge towards cheesy. But what would rock music be if not for the rock ballad? But the dense noise of 'Fields, Shorelines and Hunters' or the driving synths of '.' add the necessary aggression. There's also the pure effervescence of 'Can't Stop,' but the attempt at creepiness in 'Car Chase Terror' falls flat.

'A Guitar and a Heart' manages to be more eerie, and does so without the spoken word. Overall, it's an album that's been in heavy rotation at my place, flaws and all. Can't have the highs without the lows, right? Looks like the brilliance of 'Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts' may have been a sophomore fluke. While 'Before the Dawn Heals Us' is a stylistic continuation of the previous album, much of the propulsive pyrotechnics of songs like 'Unreleased', '0078h' and 'America' are minimized in favor of slow-churning, syrupy ballads with some pretty bland lyrical content. The only songs that really turn up the analog rock fire are 'Fields, Shorelines and Hunters', '.'

, 'A Guitar and a Heart' and 'Teen Angst', which sounds conspicuously like an Ulrich Schnauss out-take.
